Katie Hanna joined the U.S. Center for SafeSport team in December 2017 and directs the Center’s prevention, education, and outreach efforts. Just prior to joining the Center, she was a Visiting Fellow in the Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering, and Tracking (SMART) at the Office of Justice Programs in the U.S. Department of Justice. Prior to her fellowship, she was the Executive Director of the Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence (OAESV), and previously led sexual assault prevention and response at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU).
During her tenure with OAESV, coalition achievements included: securing statewide funding of $3 million for Ohio rape crisis centers addressing prevention and advocacy; developing a statewide sexual violence prevention public awareness campaign; requiring the submission of rape kits; and extending the criminal statute of limitations for rape and sexual battery. Katie co-authored Transforming Ohio Campuses: A Toolkit for Implementing the Changing Campus Culture Initiative in 2016. She was a board member of the National Alliance to End Sexual Violence (2013 – November 2017) and the 2017 Visionary Voice Award recipient for Ohio. Katie holds a master’s degree in Counseling from Ohio University and holds a BFA in Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She has an Executive Coaching certificate from the Weatherhead School of Management at CWRU and a certificate from the Women Staff Leadership Development Initiative.
