Nicole Welling (Truxes) is in her first season as an Assistant Coach at Arizona State and has been a part of the program since its infancy. Welling was responsible for writing a draft of the proposal leading to USA Triathlon’s grant awarded to ASU in order to fund the program.
She began her tenure at ASU in 2018 in Triathlon Operations, and has been involved in every step regarding triathlon at Arizona State including hiring a head coach, helping the team’s assigned Development Officer to raise funds for equipment, and organizing and planning the first official visit for triathlon student-athletes at ASU.
Welling also raced triathlon starting in 2012 – she competed in many International Triathlon Union events with a few highlights of a podium finish in Barbados (2nd) in 2015, a top 15 finish at the Continental Championship in Monterrey (14th) in 2015 and she was selected to be a part of the US team for the FISU World University Triathlon Championship in 2016. Outside of triathlon, she was a volunteer coach for the Girls on the Run organization from 2013-2014. GOTR is a non-profit organization that inspires girls to become strong young women through the power of running, self-confidence, and self-respect.
A long-time Arizona native, Welling earned a B.S. in nutrition science and a minor in chemistry from the University of Arizona in 2013 and a Master’s of Education, focusing on Higher and Postsecondary Education, from Arizona State University in 2015.
